If only....

being Jan 19, 2021
Self doubt can show up for all of us.  It’s those times we tell ourselves that who we want to be or the way we want to live is not realistic, or too far off to reach.  We fill our journals with the reasons we’ve identified as the barriers to our success.  Most of the statements begin with “if only”….    If only I had more time.   If only I had the freedom to do what I really wanted.  If only I had more money, then I could take this risk.  If only my wife or husband would listen.  If only my family would understand.  The list goes on forever.  Why is this?  Why, when we’ve experienced successful achievements, relationships, businesses, or projects in the past do we continue to believe the “if only” lies?  Perhaps we’re scared or doubt our capability.  Maybe we want to shift the blame for the lack of action or progress to someone or something outside ourselves.  Thus we carefully craft a narrative that allows us the freedom of a spectator and do not take responsibility for the outcome or lack thereof.

How often does the “if only” soundtrack play in your narrative?  What if you changed your relationship with that voice, that inner doubting critic, so that it become a prompt inviting you to look for where you’ve sidestepped being honest with yourself?  Is there an underlying narrative that is running from an unconscious motivation that you are not willing to look at?  Our motivations drive our narrative.  Our stories dictate how we relate to our experiences.  How we relate to our experience becomes how we engage with our realty.  "If only" is a self limiting narrative based in scarcity.    That there isn’t enough.  That I’m not enough.

What would make you “enough”?
Why do you need to “be enough”?
What would happen if you already “were enough”?

What is the unconscious motivation driving your narrative? If you are honest with yourself could it create a change in the way you relate to your experience?

It just might change how you engage with your reality.
